PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kansas - If you received a letter in the mail from the city of Prairie Village and Service Line Warranties of America, you may wonder if it is legitimate. You are not alone. Some 60 people contacted Prairie Village city hall in recent days asking that question. The answer is yes, it is legit.
The letter explains the details of a program available to residents through a partnership with the National League of Cities and the company Service Line Warranties of America.
The program costs $5.50 a month and will cover $4000 in repair costs if your home's sewer line is damaged. It also covers $4000 for public street cutting.
Prairie Village city council members unanimously approved the program.
"We do support this," said council member Al Herrera.
The letter is to inform residents, especially in the northeast part of Johnson County, an area with larger trees and older clay sewer lines.
"The constituents are really responsible from the house to the sewer line," Herrera said.
Johnson County Waste Water department reports receiving around 100 calls annually from homeowners with damaged sewer pipes.
